About this Part: The receptacle is the socket that the burner element plugs into and connects your burner to the cooktop. Over time the receptacle contacts can burn out.
Typical Failure Symptoms: Poor operation of burner; No operation of burner; Sizzling noise under the burner/cooktop.
Repair Difficulty: 2 out of 5 / Beginner to Moderate
Minimal disassembly (if any) and some basic tools may be needed.
Testing: Look at the receptacle contacts with a flashlight. If the terminals look burnt you will need to replace the element receptacle. Additionally, you should also make sure the element prongs are clean and are not burnt. If the prongs are also burnt, the element should be replaced as well.
Additional Tips: When checking the receptacle, also look at the element prongs for signs of burning. If burnt, the element and the receptacle should be replaced.
