Beater/Whip to Bowl Clearance
Per the manufacturer the mixer attachments should not touch the bottom of the bowl. If the attachment hits the bottom or sides of the bowl, it may cause the attachment to warp or enamel to chip off. If, after installation, the attachments are touching the bottom of the bowl OR are too far away you can adjust the clearance on your mixer:
Tilt Head models:
- Turn speed control to "O".
- Unplug the mixer.
- Lift motor head.
- To RAISE the attachment: Turn screw SLIGHTLY counter-clockwise. / To LOWER the attachment: Turn screw SLIGHTLY clockwise.
- Adjust the beater so that it just clears the bowl. If you over adjust the screw, the bowl lock lever may not lock into place.
NOTE: When properly adjusted, the beater will not strike the bottom or sides of the bowl when in use. If the beater or whip strikes the bowl when in use, the enamel coating may wear/chip off the beater or the wires of the whip may become warped.

Lighter but excellent replacement part

Lighter, but real good
I have an old (1970's) KH45, 4.5 qt. The original beater paddle had chipped paint at the bottom. It was fine, but I was ordering the wire wisk attachment and this one was so cheap, I threw it in.
The one one is a lot lighter weight than the original, and a slightly different shape and a little bit smaller. It seems plenty strong enough though. It works at least as good as the original (Maybe better?) at mixing up cake batter and even dough for scones. So even though a little peeling paint on a beater is not really a big problem, I'm glad I got this replacement for the price.
Finally: A call out to Speedy Appliance Parts. The parts (I ordered the other beater attachments as well) got here in California on a Wednesday when I ordered them on a Saturday . Pretty good. They also simply shipped the part in its box taped to the boxes of the other parts to form one package. No bubblewrap, styrofoam peanuts, plastic bags inside of boxes inside of other boxes, just minimal packaging and shipping to get the job done (The boxes were plenty sturdy to protect the attachments). I would highly recommend them based on this purchase
